    Gothenburg III

Took some photo walks and found som nice places where I could wait for passing people to be framed.

The last one was almost perfect because the shop across the street had an open door making it a second black frame. Seconds after the shop turned on the lights and the framing was lost.

Otherwise I just walked around taking me wherever things caught my attention. In an alley I found the ”abandoned McDonalds. I really liked the color palette with concrete, white and metal.

Later we got a live show at a coffee place

Second day in a new place is always a bit weird. The first day you find interesting places you want to visit but it is impossibkle to do it all so you end up a little all over the place.

So lower shutter count today, but some nice ones. Edited some into black/white. One day I will be brave enough to use the monochrome settings in the camera and dare to lose the colors.

I, as I guess most who started with photo as a hobby 30 years ago, began with b/w film photography. I love limitations but also fear missing something.

Another thing is deciding on the best image in a series. Like below, the first one is the safe one, the second an odder but more interesting and the third one maybe to odd because the main object is not only out of focus but also to the side so naturally you don’t notice it.

A paper/stationary store (Rum för papper) had to aestethically pleasing layout NOT to photo.

Getting uncomfortable with street photography. This have been something I always wanted to do but felt too embarrassed. I donät want other people to feel stalked…

I didn’t snap anyone face on and not in anybody’s way so it was a light start. (And some are my wife so they don’t really count.)

We are here a couple of days so will continue to explore this area af photography and also Gothenburg. We lived closer by 20 years ago and quite often visited the city. But life changes you and now it feels like a new city because we look for other things than 20 years ago. We noticed that like 90% of everything we marked on Google maps are food… 😆

Om the subject of food we found a korean food truck with things we have wanted to try for a while and a good coffee place. We will probably return to both of them.

more rhings like this will follow…

  • Man vs. Nature

    Man vs. Nature

A reoccurring thought when photographing nature is when man made items wither away. One of my favorite photos from my teens was an electric motor on a beach. It was rusty and would clearly be the loser of the battle against nature.

And sometimes there are things made to nature – like the quarry in the photos below – that left unattended will be overgrown and water filled. Like gigant wounds they will be healed and erased.

I don’t like harm to be done to nature but also finds comfort in the thought that whatever we do nature will win in the long end.

    Let’s get serious

I have been interested in photography since about 10 years old. I got grandmas old compact camera for a trip to Denmark and really tried to be creative with it.

Some years later I got an old SLR from my aunt and started reading books and magazines about composition and techniques. My aunt and uncle worked at high school teaching photography and they kindly though me and my brother how to develop film and make copies.

Since then it have always been a hobby and one that never faded away. It is still a source for relaxation and that I am not aiming to change that. But there are a lot of areas that I have not explored and that’s where I want to get serious.

This blog is for myself and I don’t expect anyone to read it. But I want somewhere to document things and also display the photos.
